Supporting you through the fires: practice this free class

What we’re doing this week…

Short on time? Practice from our “Weekly Wellness” playlists: a thoughtfully curated, lineup crafted by our Yoga Medicine® Therapeutic Specialists for a purposeful weekly plan to support your health & wellness. Check back each Sunday for new classes & an updated playlist to plan your week ahead or look through our other options to suit your needs.

Cross Train Your Life

Whether you’re a professional athlete or a professional desk sitter we all need cross training to create balance in our tissues, nervous system and overall resilience. This lineup looks at cross training through movement, myofascial release, awareness, recovery and breath. Start your week off strong with a 60min strength class, several shorter focused classes through the week, then another 60min class at the end to round it out and a meditation you can use on your off day or anytime you like.

Release and refresh key regions of your connective tissue, those most subject to friction or stagnation, and feel the flow-on effects throughout your body. This 60 minute all-levels practice uses myofascial release followed by relaxed yin-style stretches, and you will need: two same-size tennis or massage balls, a blanket or large towel, plus a yoga block (or foam roller) if you have one.

A moderately-paced 60mins class, suitable for yogis of all levels, with a focus on function and moving mindfully. We will do just enough work to feel connected, limber and strong, and to more fully enjoy rest and relaxation in savasana. There will be options to spice things up for those wanting a slightly stronger practice! Please have a blanket or beach towel for class.

The lats and glut max are powerful, prime movers on the backside of the body that are connected to each other through the thoracolumbar fascia and are often underutilized. This class focuses on restoring balance and healthy function to all three of these structures, in order to strengthen the back-side of the body, support the neck and shoulders and stabilise the pelvis. This 60 minute all-levels practice also incorporates some yoga conditioning and myofascial release. You will need a block, two tennis or myofascial release balls, a blanket if you practice on a smooth floor surface or a plate or frisbee if practicing on carpet.

Create space in the shoulders and the chest to help you release any burdens and to reconnect to your source of endless compassion. Flow through a series of standing poses, using a longer exhale to create a sense of calm and ease. End with a cozy restorative pose before savasana and an intention-setting meditation after savasana. A nourishing flow to help wind down the week or start the new one slowly. Props: Block, blanket (or towel).
